Breaking Down the WAKETRACE Event Categories
On the WAKETRACE map, data can be viewed and filtered using a combination of six distinct categories.
By WAKETRACE Team · · WAKETRACE Guides
Using the WAKETRACE map, there will be times when you only want to see a specific type of data. To make this possible, our Risk Events are sorted into six Event Categories. These categories can then be used to filter the map using the on-screen Filters tool.
Let's break down the six categories, so you know what to expect.
Crime
Under the Crime category, you can see all crime related Risk Events reported by the community. It may include crimes such as theft, assaults, scams, fraud and incidents with firearms.
Official Advisory
When an official warning is shared on the map, it comes under the Official Advisory category. As an example, this could include government announcements of a travel restriction in a specific area, perhaps due to military exercises.
Environmental Risk
Risk Events related to the environment around you are categorized under Environmental Risk. A prime example of this is natural disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, but it could also include localised environmental risks, such as FADs.
Communication Disruption
A Communication Disruption includes incidents like GPS or Data Loss, that are outside of the norm. For example, if you were to suddenly experience GPS loss while sailing on all of your devices, you could report a GPS / Data Loss Risk Event, which would then be displayed in this category.
War and Instability
Under War and Instability you can view data related to conflicts, including Risk Event reports for Warzone or Civil Unrest. This category helps ensure you are aware of what areas to avoid, assisting with securing the safety of your crew and vessel as you explore the world.
Other Risk
Risks Events that don't fall into another category are classified as Other Risk. This category can be quite interesting to track, as it includes anything community members feel the public should be aware of and would like to share without the risk of systemic information suppression.
